Protons, neutrons and electrons in Bohrium
A neutral Bohrium atom has 107 protons and 107 electrons. Most Bohrium atoms have about 163 neutrons: the atomic mass rounded to 270, minus the atomic number 107.
Neutrons are approximate: atoms of the same element can have different numbers of neutrons (isotopes). Atomic number and mass
How many valence electrons does Bohrium have?
2
Bohrium has 2 valence electrons, counting the electrons in its outermost s subshell. Like most transition metals, it can also use d electrons in bonding.

Molar mass of Bohrium
270 g/mol
One mole of Bohrium atoms (6.022 × 10²³ atoms) has a mass of 270 grams. Use this value to convert between grams and moles.
Bohrium facts
- The name nielsbohrium was originally proposed for element 107 before it was shortened to bohrium.
- Bohrium was the first of six superheavy elements, numbers 107 to 112, first made at GSI in Darmstadt.
- Bohrium (Bh) has atomic number 107. It was discovered in 1981.
Position in the periodic table
Bohrium is element 107, in period 7 and group 7 of the periodic table, in the d-block.
Uses of Bohrium
Bohrium has no uses outside research because only a few atoms have ever been made. In 2000 scientists at the Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland turned just a handful of bohrium atoms into a volatile oxychloride. The experiment showed that bohrium behaves like rhenium, the element above it in group 7, as the periodic table predicts.
Who discovered Bohrium?
A team led by Peter Armbruster and Gottfried Münzenberg at GSI in Darmstadt, Germany, first convincingly made bohrium in 1981 by bombarding bismuth with chromium ions. It is named after Danish physicist Niels Bohr.
Where does the name come from?
Bohrium honors Niels Bohr, the Danish physicist whose model of the atom, with electrons in fixed energy levels, helped lay the foundations of quantum theory. The element was first made in 1981 in Darmstadt, Germany.

What is the molar mass of Bohrium?
The molar mass of Bohrium is 270 g/mol. This is the same number as its atomic mass, 270 u.
Is Bohrium a metal?
Yes. Bohrium is a transition metal, so it is a metal.
Is Bohrium radioactive?
Yes. Bohrium has no stable isotopes, so all of its atoms are radioactive and eventually decay into other elements.
Where is Bohrium on the periodic table?
Bohrium is element 107, in period 7 and group 7 of the periodic table, in the d-block.
